I was introduced to the work of Kirsten and Dean several years ago when I accidentally ran into a giant “tribble” wandering the fringe venues. They were promoting their show, and Kirsten had the giant fluffball costume on. It intrigued me, so I went to see their show, and I’m so glad I did. Now I make sure I don’t miss a performance. They are so talented, and have introduced all new work this year, taking our emotions and imaginations in fascinating new directions.

What an enjoyable and unusual experience. I imagine how much fun you had would depend on the dynamics of the group, but our group seemed to share the fun pretty well. The puzzles were clever, and I enjoy puzzles. But, even if I didn’t, the atmosphere of the play would have been enough fun too. It’s kind of like this. When you watch a movie, you are watching a flat, completely unresponsive screen. When you watch a play, it is deeper, and there is a dynamic between the audience and the players. But, this was experiencing the play right along with the actors. It’s like the difference between 2D and 3D. We could literally reach out and be part of the action. Bravo!

I am a rabid Monty Python fan, and I had a great time at this show. Their arrangements of these funny Monty Python skits were super. Many of the reviews were critical because "it had already been done" by the original Monty Python crew. But if that was the criteria for putting on a show, then we would be missing out on a lot of great shows. This was fun. And the music was great too.

When the show started, I thought "Oh no, what have I gotten myself in for? It's like watching two little girls playing silly." Then, the charm of this show began to catch me. I loved the melons, the S.A.D. light, groceries, phone call, yep, like I said, it begins to cast a spell. The only thing I could have done a little less with was the alien stuff--just a tad less. Otherwise, nicely done!

Something about this show stuck with me. It was endearing and natural. I loved the quiet, sarcastic observations made by the male character. I had a little trouble with the overall 'adult' language in the show since I'm not used to swearing in my circles, but I guess that's how people talk, so what can I do? I also got a little lost in the counselor's rant. All-in-all, this one is worth seeing in my opinion.

The World's Largest Aluminum Foil Ball

Yes, it's not Broadway, but our group had an enjoyable time at this one. Without revealing too much, some of my favorite parts were: The way the son could change from the mysterious narrator to the "Bubba" face in a matter of seconds. The Slow Boy (non-rhyming) song. And of course, their appeal to a higher power. Yeah--this would be worth your time.

I agree with others that the beginning was a very strong start to this show. Some of the scenes were very strong, and others were weaker. I particularly liked the "I'm the Decider" scene. It packed a powerful punch. "Poverty" was amusing but went on too long. And diva's creed was a clever idea, but watching people ridicule what others find sacred grows tiresome after awhile. I thought the ending was strong and made me want to relook up the words to those songs. I could have done without the political advertisement though (I'll make my own choice in voting, thank you). But, it wasn't completely unexpected. I did, after all, read some of the other reviews to this show. It did come off as rather preachy in my opinion, but it's hard not to do so when you are trying to pursuade.

I am not involved in theater (nor are friends or family), so I am fortunate enough to be able to sit back and just plain enjoy it. It’s amazing to me how actors can morph into completely different characters. This show is set in 1948 and the science scene in Great Britain. Think Royal Society of yada yada yada and cosmological models which explain the nature of the universe. This is the “untold story” about how one of those theories was born. These three pompous Cambridge lads did some fast talking and plays on words that came at the speed of light. We were highly amused.

Why did I go see this one? I really despised it--I'm not kidding. It was crude and juvenile without being clever. Maybe I should have read the description of the show better, but I honestly didn't expect what I saw. I give the show one and a half stars. I suggest one star for the actors who did their best and the half star because I wasn't bored--horrified yes, but not entirely bored.
