A colorful & unqie Fringe offering

This hour presents scenarios, in dance, illustrating women's roles and contributions to Chinese history and culture. The costumes are colorful, the dancers are beautiful, and I ended up appreciating the "emcee" who provided historical background between dances. The dancing itself was a bit uneven, but the dancers were totally committed to his well-curated, thoughtfully planned and heartfelt show.

Simply lovely

This is a beautiful dance piece that should not be missed! The only reason why I'm doing 4 instead of five kitties is because while the solo movements are extraordinary (one even made me cry) the ensemble's precision in large groups was a little sloppy.

Please don't let that stop you from seeing this show! I highly recommend this stunning production.

There is enormous commitment and belief driving this show. It's a socio-political statement about the roles of women in Chinese culture, and other cultures as well, across history. Each of the seven dances is introduced by a young woman who delivers explanatory context in a pool of light, rather like a classic lecture-demonstration. The choreography draws on many sources, including classical Chinese, Western-Caucasian ballet, competition school razzmatazz, martial arts, and contemporary dance-theater. Much as I admired the sentiment of the socio-political content and much as I respect the courage of artists who step from one culture into another and do their honest best to assimilate local styles while keeping one foot in their origins, I have to confess that I began to feel as if I was watching a series of cruise-ship spectacles. Colorful entertainment (but with an unchallengably earnest message)after your dinner of rubber chicken with asparagus stems. There was something so costumed, so dramatically lit, so posed, and so self-consciously flashy about most of the pieces. See also my blog at tcdailyplanet.net. I have complex and mixed feelings about this show.

I loved the entire performance. Everyone danced beautifully, the costumes were exquisite, and the stories were very well told both verbally and through the dance. Everyone should see this!

Alternately thought-provoking and just plain entertaining. Beautiful dance in beautiful costumes.

This show had me fascinated! The dances to illustrate the different stories were each unique, and combined with the beautiful costumes made a stunning visual picture on stage.
