Gone, Gone, Gone

presented by Monica Rodero & Daniel Schuchart

Gone, Gone, Gone

The witty and humorous Milwaukee-based powerhouse, Monica Rodero and Dan Schuchart, are at it again and taking to the road. After four years of collaborative creation, this innovative and unpredictable pair is returning to the Minnesota Fringe Festival with new work. Their lively dance show navigates sticky situations and improbable scenarios while revealing very human elements of life, love and all the office supplies you can steal from work. This physical romp flies, tumbles and turns through an evening of vibrant vignettes loaded with charm, humility and humor.

The cast

Monica Rodero & Daniel Schuchart
Role: choreographer/dancer

Monica Rodero earned her BFA in dance at UW-Milwaukee in 2003 and is in her sixth season performing with Milwaukee based Wild Space Dance Company. Monica teaches yoga through the UWM Outreach Department and enjoys instructing children and adults of all ages.

Daniel Schuchart graduated from UWM in 2004 with a dual BFA in dance and painting/drawing. Dan has been a company member of both Wild Space Dance Company and Danceworks Performance Company in Milwaukee, WI.

Keeping a home base in Milwaukee, WI, Rodero and Schuchart have been greatly influenced by the additional training received by traveling throughout Europe and the U.S. to take classes and attend workshops and festivals such as the Impulstanz International Dance Festival in Vienna, Austria.

Both artists have been presented as emerging choreographers by Danceworks Inc. in Art-to-Art, and have actively pursued creating and producing their own work including the independent dance concert, Brush Up. This concert marked the start of a series of collaborations between Rodero and Schuchart which lead to the pair being presented on the UWM alumni concert, Dancemakers Redux, by Your Mother Dances, Wild Space and most recently by Danspace Project in NYC. The pair currently endeavors to curate interactive, multi-media events in the Kunzelmann-Esser Lofts and Gallery and tour their independent dance concerts. Much of the work focuses on human dynamics both as individuals and within relationships to create smart, fun and accessible dances imbued with grace, full-bodied dancing and humor.

Wit, beauty and masking tape
by Florence Brammer Follow this reviewer

I saw the final scheduled performance of this beautiful show, but if it's the Encore for the Southern, I recommend it. I loved Rodero & Schuchart's program last year, and this one has even stronger material -- more complex, more witty, more moving, and danced with even more confidence and grace. I can't say enough good things about this meticulously constructed piece.

Pas De Deux With Tape and Paper Towel

Two excellent dancers create a sensual flowing synergy. I don't know what the title means but the duets were funny, flirtatious, earthy and true. A Shockwave Radio Theater Review.

Dance that flows like a mountain stream.

Two dancers share the pleasantness and freedom of contemporary dance. Trust. Together. Flow. Contemporary dance that is elegant without ostentatiousness. It is the body in motion with one of the elements gravity. There is symmetry while both together and apart. Masking tape and a roll household paper towels are used to underline and support that symmetry. Their music is smooth contemporary avant-garde without harsh sound. Thank you, we enjoyed the flow of the mountain stream you shared with us.

Great, Great, Great!

I saw this duo last year and loved the show! I was extremely excited to see them in the Fringe again this year. The dancing is exquisite, not because of any flashy dance numbers, but because of all of the intricacies involved in their technique. The looks on thier faces as they perform the more witty segments of the show are priceless. The last section of the show contains some complexly smooth partnering that left me saying out loud to my friend sitting next to me "I was watching them the whole time, but there were moments that they connected that I dind't even see them make the connection. All of the sudden, she (Monica Rodero) was just getting moved around. Can't say enough good things about this show.

Accessible Modern Dance

Great playful and very accessible modern dance. I'm not big into dance in general, but i've seen my share of it, and this is the only concert that had me laughing out loud with the dancers. These two look great together, they are synthesizing great talent with having fun on stage like no other group i've seen.

Exquisite

This is one 50-minute single work about the evolution of a relationship held together in part, both literally and metaphorically, by masking tape. Note the fragility and impermanence of this visual metaphor. There is abundant wit, but I wouldn't call anything a "gag." There is great dance virtuosity, but it's in the details rather than in big flashy stunts. There is great intelligence and considerable nuance in the the concept and how they work with it, but nothing is pedantic or over-wrought or self-absorbed. Part way through I stopped taking notes and just watched with my jaw dropped slightly open in delight. This may be the most exquisite extended piece about a realtionship that I have seen in a decade.

A Delightful Duo

When they were dancing the show was great. They complement each other well. Far too much taping tape to the floor and playing with paper towels thus the four rating instead of a five.

Is all i can say about this act.
I've never seen comedy and modern dance put together and made one and the same.
Pure genius.

Unadulterated Delight

One of the most charming, lovely, romantically silly and beautiful dance performances I've seen. It's held together with tape, skill, and love. Get to the Southern and see this.

That old tape magic!

Simply fantastic show giving both dancers moments of solo excellence, displays of silky strength, and a fizzing combined chemistry. The movement was inventive, and fun with accompaniment by silence, interesting music, and the dulcet sounds of packing tape! I loved the relationship arc (fun, flirtation, passion, anger, separation, and renewal), and in particular how the moments of greatest sensuality and destructiveness grew out of everyday acts. Top notch stuff here!
