awesome!

This play had a great premise and built on it in a stereotypical horror film way. I liked how the killer 80s songs were fit into the show. The writing, choreography, and acting were all exceptional. Great job everyone!

A little zany but a lot of fun!

The 80s music alone was worth the price of admission! This show has a couple of moments that are difficult for the audience to follow but its fun atmosphere keeps your engaged. Every cast member brought great energy and great character development through their movements and expressions . This show could benefit from a more cohesive script but still worth checking out.

B Movie Madness

A campy, brazenly bizarre, and quite possibly insane effort choreographed like "Grease" for Evil Dead fans everywhere. Was it perfect? No. Sometimes the script dragged and the story didn't seem meaty enough to sing about. But these immensely talented people truly amazed with the sheer effort of their work. Not consistently riveting, but still the stuff of legend. Rock on, Chuck & Co; good luck in the desert!

This one was dreadful! Someone in the audience got up and left and I wish I had done the same. There was some overly loud (it felt insincere)laughter but I couldn't figure out what people were laughing at. Then I realized most of the audience wasn't laughing -it was only a few people - which leads me to believe they were friends and family of the cast. Don't waste your time.

LOVE LOVE LOVED IT!

This show was a blast. Wildly outrageous but terribly funny, this show takes a weird ass script and delivers 60 min of pure entertainment. Sari Lennick is brightest star of all - look for her in the 2009 Coen Brothers film being shot here in Minneapolis! Quite the talent she is!!!! See her and the rest of these very very talented actors this weekend!

Not all of it works but the musical numbers are well worth the Fringe cost but only if you are familiar with 80's music, which I am.

This show succeeds at doing exactly what it sets out to do...be fun! It was a bunch of talented people having a good time singing and dancing to the 80s. Very entertaining!

Truly enjoyable show.

It was good, you should go see it. The cast really played off each other well. I would almost see it again...

A fantastically talented cast such as this one deserves MUCH better material. Even the terrific performances can't drag the lack of a script or plot up to a better level. Worth seeing just for the actors, but sit up close -- the black hole of acoustics known as The Lab doesn't do anyone any favors.

This show made me laugh more than Cody Rivers. It gets my vote for best use of a canoe paddle as a prop. Will it inspire deep thought, probably not. Will it make you laugh? You bet.

I wanted to like this. I really did. But I was too distracted by the number of times I asked the person next to me "What the fuck is going on?!" Blech.

Ludicrous premise, so deftly executed you don't care. Hats off to the choreographer. Not a weak link in the cast, but I would single out for special commendation the performances by Paul Whittemore’s torso and all of Amber Lee Olivier. Just watch the YouTube clip.

55 Minutes of Hell on Earth!
by Steven LaVigne Follow this reviewer

The good news is that there’s a lot of talent involved in the creation of the very gay Great American Horror Movie Musical. The bad news is that too many cooks have spoiled the broth, because the results is 55 minutes of hell on Earth. The show centers on a group of movie people who are planning to do a documusical about Eric Robert Rudolph, a serial killer hiding in a national forest. The premise, written by MFA playwright Jonathan Howle, is standard Fringe fare. The show is rarely inventive, full of bad jokes and low comedy and pointless male semi-nudity (Paul Whittemore spends a lot of time with his shirt off) guaranteed to have audiences hooting, but leaving the intelligent theatregoer with far too many question. When Andrew Rasmussen’s choreography isn’t corny, it’s the most creative thing onstage. Somehow Jonathan Peterson and John Bruce manage to create a character and stay in it, but the rest of the cast is wasting their time and ours.

A musical in search of a script

A fun cast was a plus, but with nothing but a shred of a script to drive the story, this one's Karaoke with 4 flat tires.

My top show this year at fringe. Yes, some of the songs could have been better, but the dancing was great, and I though thought there was a lot of creativity in putting the whole thing together.

These performers deserve better.

These talented performers deserve a much better vehicle. I had high hopes of seeing a clever original musical this afternoon, and was sorely disappointed by GAHMM, despite some great performances.

Randy Schmeling is always a great bet. He inhabits his characters with integrity and full commitment, and today was no exception. He has a beautiful singing voice. Jonathan Peterson never fails to amaze me with his range; I don't believe I have ever seen him play the same character type twice, and he had some truly hilarious moments as Boo. Sari Lennick, a recent transplant to the Twin Cities, was a revelation. With her talent, I hope we'll be seeing a lot more of her in the future. Unfortunately, we had to wait until the very end to hear Sheridan Zuther, who is by far the best singer in the group, and is sadly underused.

But the show is not good. The story is uninteresting, and despite a few funny moments and some clever tongue-in-cheek choreography, it left me cold.

terrible, complete miss use of talent

This was terrible. One 5th of the audience laughed at the horrible dialogue. The musical numbers were fun, but there was no momentum in the action and the song choices were DULL as well. I feel sorry for the actors, all very gifted and some are new in town. What a miserable project. Sari Lennick did a great job with her characters, one of the few people who relished her archetype. Kudos to the actors and choreographer. I know it takes a lot of work to do a show this bad.

(I'm writing harsh reviews this year).

I laughed so much during this show and wanted to jump out of my front row seat to join in on the singing and the dancing. But I can't sing. Or dance really for that matter! "Sweet Dreams" was the best number by far! I loved that the storyline was full of camp and fluff -- the actors were committed to it and that made it oh so enjoyable as an audience member. Thank you! FAME indeed!

Skip the talking, just do the singing.

In short, parts that involved singing were good and parts that involved talking were bad. I think the Fringe-For-All preview I saw was the best part of the whole show. It's like the actual plot was a poor excuse to gratuitously string together a bunch of '80s songs. If you can't do a good gay joke, don't even bother. Everyone around us seemed to enjoy this show way better than I did. There was a pretty wide range of acting talent. All were great singers. Sari Lennick was a bright spot. Don't bother with this one.

Needs Clarity but is Still Good

With all the good word of mouth about this show, perhaps I was expecting a bit more. Still, I want to emphasize that the singing was really good, the acting -fine- and the venue, excellent. I guess my biggest problem with the production was two-fold: applicability of songs and sense of direction.

Essentially, as the main characters go about their task and accrue more people to hunt down the Great American Murderer, Eric Rudolph, there seems to be very little in the way of "Horror". In fact, there seems to be very little drive to the story at all. Things just "happen". The songs also don't really seem to fit the scenes into which they are thrust. Are they good? Yeah! Did I have a good time? Sure. I just feel the script could have used a more concrete direction with more linkage between songs and story.

Great AHMM = GREAT, ahhhh.

What a show! 80's music, dance, jokes about dance, immense physical energy. This show takes a decent story with a good script, better choreography and an awesome cast and weaves magic.

OK, I loved the preview in the Fringe For All and the show pretty much delivered on it! Really fun songs and choreography. A bit of tightening up in the dialogue scenes and it will be a very good show!
