A Cynic Tells Love Stories
Intense and raw by Sarah Cura
Rating: 5 kitties
It took a lot of courage for Katherine to reveal herself like she did tonight. She's an awesome writer - we all know that. I didn't realise that she's also a great performer. I was going to say actor, but she's not really acting here. It's more like showing... I understand her better now, whether she wants me to or not.
For those of you who don't know Katherine yet, you want to. Go see her show. You'll find part of your own struggle for truth in relationships, emotions and love in her "confessions" (that's a horrible word, but it's late and I don't want to say "show" again. I'll think of a better word as soon as I hit submit. Besides I'm not a writer - Katherine is. Give me a break!)
The Curse of Yig
And the whole theatre jumps... by Sarah Cura
Rating: 5 kitties
I knew the show would be good because Tim Uren is involved. He is just a master of his craft. It took a bit for me to get used to the narrative style of this piece, but it was clear early on that it was the best way to present the story. Then I became mesmarized... Time was gone. I forgot I was in a theatre with other people. We were all engrossed, and we all jumped together - TWICE. Oooh it was fun. I hope I don't have snake dreams tonight...
Spermalot: The Musical
So many names for sperm... by Sarah Cura
Rating: 4 kitties
Of course this is total silliness that kept me laughing out loud the whole time. Anytime you mix sperm and music it's going to be fun, at least you hope so...
I gave it 4 kitties instead of 5 just because the songs were not always matched to the singing ability of the singer, though there were some great songs and singers. Ova was awesome and very odviously very well trained. Over all, I will be very surprised if this show doesn't get the encore show. Too much fun!!!
Schrödinger's Cat Must Die!
Formulas and fun? It's true! by Sarah Cura
Rating: 4 kitties
I didn't expect to have a better understanding of Heisenberg uncertainty principle when I made the last minute decision to catch this show this evening, but alas I am just that little bit smarter than I was before. And I had a good time. I think I want to go into Mad Scientist Training now...
Before the show started, I was struck by the man in front of me trying to explain Schrodinger's experiment to his 7-8 year old son. Oh dad! Not another physics lecture... haha
Yet the show did have 2 kids in the audience and I do think they have a bit of an understanding of certain laws of physics now. I know they had fun. We all did.
Go see this show. Don't be afraid of science. It's cool to be a geek!
Burning Man and the Reverend Nuge
I wasn't sure at first... by Sarah Cura
Rating: 4 kitties
The show starts out with a lot of Jesus talk and I really didn't come to this show to be preached at, but it didn't take long before I was caught in the Rev's story and journey. He had us all captured with his charisma from the start. You could see how he would make a great preacher in his former life. I was touched by his personal journey and his fun delivery. Not what I was expecting, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would in those first few minutes.
Boobs
No naked boobs here... by Sarah Cura
Rating: 4 kitties
But the tight shirts were nice... Well how can I not notice if we spent an hour listening to songs and stories about boobs? It was a fun show with a definite teenage humor edge to it. I'm amazed at some of the names that people have for boobs though.... Sweater pillows? Not too bad I suppose.
