I Laughed my hardest at this one!

This won hands down for having me laugh the most at this year's Fringe! It tops my list as a must-see next year! Don't let the 'Fotis sits at a desk and reads from a notebook' fool you into missing Mike work his magic. It fooled me for 2 years - BIG MISTAKE!

Go See? Yes.

With his strongest material yet, Mike Fotis regales his audience with stories of mundane tribulations, yet he weaves them together into hilarious epic tragedy. Jen Scott's accompaniment on upright bass compliments Fotis's self-described neurosis, hang-ups, and eventual triumphs.

Hyper, Zany Page-Reading-- It Works

We chose this show as our one Fringe event and weren't disappointed. Very solid storytelling performance by Mr. Fotis (and Ms. Scott). Our biggest laughs came from 1) basing his dog-adoption decision mostly to spite the shelter volunteer and 2) nailing the observation that south-of-Chicago Illinois accents are more "Deliverance" than Des Plaines.

I love Jen Scott and I love Mike Fotis. With Mike's best set of stories yet, this was easily one of my top shows this year.

Great writing and great delivery of these wonderful, self-deprecating, carefully constructed stories. So much insight and poignancy amidst all the laughter. Fotis is such a special talent . . what a gift to the Twin Cities.

You know that person that you know that never stops talking about themselves and you keep thinking about how much you want them to stop talking?

Mike Fotis is not that person.

3rd time a charm?

Fotis is a funny, talented, and insightful character. I appreciate his riffing on his anxiety & insecurities and the boy scout story is a gem... I know his act is sitting at a table and reading from a script and he is energetic enough to pull it off, but I couldn't help wonder what else Fotis could pull off? Besides the stories, what else could be new? What a surprise it would be to step away from the table or memorize some of that good stuff... throw us for a loop next year... that would be funny, too! And a challenge. One thing that alienated me as an fan and audience member was the Middle Eastern joke and toddler jokes... they seemed a narrow view... what if Fotis travelled outside his memories and apartment?

My wife picked this show before the fringe even started. I was skeptical. We had seen him and I knew he was funny but there is a lot of comedy in the fringe always.

After seeing his first show in the fringe, I am a convert. He may be the funniest man in the Fringe (or Twin Cities). He can draw the audience in and reach over the floodlights and touch them.

If you want humor; you want to see Mike Fotis perform.

This was my 3rd year seeing his solo show, and I will definitely see him again if he makes the lottery next year. Fotis has become one of my Fringe staples.

Gotta love Fotis

I love his manic presence, the way his stories ring true, and the original use of language - his funny moments aren't trendy cliches or hip pronouncements, they're the workings of his own very original mind. He might modulate his tone a bit more often, but I just love what he has to say - it's insightful, touching, very funny and original. Highly recommended. I'll see him again anywhere.

A Fringe without Fotis would be like a cheeseburger without the cheese...or something like that. Anyway. If you've been to either of his previous two shows then you know exactly what to expect from this one, which is a very good time. I hope he keeps doing this for another ten years.

Mike Fotis is an incredibly gifted writer and storyteller. Sitting at a bare table save for a three-ring binder and a bottle of water, he tells stories of his past and present, adding to them a bundle of laughs and a wry smile. If you like laughing until your face hurts, go see this show.

Good Work, But Idea Is Getting Old
by Jeff A. Follow this reviewer

Mike's show is good, as usual, and you will have a good time. But it's getting to the point, after three shows following the same formula, where I'm kind of hoping next year he does something a little different. Then again, as long as it keeps working for him and bringing in audiences, I can't blame him for not changing it up.

"Life annoys me"

If you liked his previous shows, you'll love this one. As before, curmudgeon Fotis just sits there, reading, with a bass accompaniment, as if Mr. Wilson finally got so pissed at Dennis the Menace that he ran away to become a beat poet. He tells three stories, each funnier than the last. Each story rambles a bit, then winds up in a more comfortable space, like a nude hike down the Appalachian Trail winds up in Argentina. This year, he was even more intense. He stumbled over his words in his haste so really gets four and a half kitties, but I have to round this up to five in case I start writing like him. Mike could read the phone book, and you'd laugh your butt off, but the latest iteration of "An Intimate Evening with Fotis" has the most expertly crafted writing yet. The format is perfect for his relaxed, unpretentious style. Also, be sure to pick up a MIKE FOTIS TRADING CARD!!!

Mike Fotis can do little wrong. Having seen him for years at the Brave New Workshop mainstage shows, my wife and I have become big fans of his off-the-wall sense of humor and distinctive delivery. He spins a great, wacky yarn, and this show offers countless hearty guffaws. Highly recommended!

Fotis is one of the best storytellers I've heard -- from Boy Scout tragedies to puppy dogs being better than kids because you can cage them up when you want to go somewhere. He's right up there with David Sedaris and Kevin Kling. And I'm buying his first book of stories if he ever writes one.

This was my first Fotis show. I am glad that we finally made it. We enjoyed ourselves, felt we had found an interesting and unique artform, but also couldn't help but feel that it was perhaps a bit over rated. Sorry, just a humble opinion.

Fotis remains an engaging, funny storyteller. There was plenty to connect to as an audience member in this year's batch, from recognizable experiences of summer camp and boy scouting to feelings of stress and anxiety. I'm neither a dog person nor a smoker, but the show helped me understand both.

Jen Scott once again provides slick upright bass underscoring to keep the pace smooth and the mood mellow.

This is the third year I've seen Intimate in Fringe. I've always enjoyed it but this year was the strongest performance yet.

As someone struggling with neuroses and quitting smoking I resonated instantly with Mike's stories.

Mike's best solo show yet.

All this hilarious storytelling show is missing is a moment or two for Mike to catch his breath. Seriously. Who knew it was possible to get such a workout sitting behind a three-ring binder atop a desk. The audience gets an amazing workout, too--if laughing counts as exercise. Kudos to Jen Scott and her bass for providing this intimate evening its groove.

Mystery success

See, thing is, this shouldn't have worked. He just reads the whole show- not keeps a script handy to refer to, READS the whole show. And barely looks at us. And has the same delivery for 95% of it. And it's so freaking hilarious that I was weeping for most of it. So it beats me how he did it, but hell, it works.

It's not that the stories are extraordinary, it's the telling of ordinary happenings in sharp focus. Scout camp, bad habits, anxieties, home ownership, family stuff, and pets: Mike Fotis dissects his experiences and memories so that he can put them back together for our ears.

By the end of the show, my cheeks hurt from laughing so hard. What surprised me most were the moments of sadness and vulnerability woven into the narrative. They added a wonderful depth to Mike's stories that was very powerful. I saw it on the first night of Fringe and hope to make it there again!

Fotis is an amazing storyteller, in spite of all of his proposed insecurities and stresses. He gets terribly giddy telling his stories, often given to shouting entire pages of text while we're laughing along with him. Three incredibly funny, well crafted stories, Fotis is lovable and entertaining, in spite of the fact that he does not stand up.
