Show reviews by Dave Larson

An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein
Get in line early by Dave Larson
Rating: 5 kitties
This show will sell out all performances, and it's worth getting in line early. It has a couple of very engaging performers and Shel Silverstein's short scenes can be very funny. This cast is worth seeing. Recommended.

Theory of Mind
Very good show by Dave Larson
Rating: 5 kitties
This is a funny and interesting show from Mixed Blood (at the Theater Garage!). The performers are excellent and the script is great. The type of high quality you would expect from Mixed Blood, with a little message attached. Recommended.

See You Next Tuesday
Very well written and performed by Dave Larson
Rating: 5 kitties
Walking Shadow is know for very high quality performances, and this show stays true to form. Great writing and acting and direction. Recommended.

I love Amy! by Dave Larson
Rating: 5 kitties
I am a big Amy Salloway fan. Her writing is always amazing and this show is as good as her other Fringe shows. The humor is a terrific vehicle for wonderful show. Get in line early - this show will and should sell out.

The Damn Audition
Another fun Scrimshaw show by Dave Larson
Rating: 5 kitties
This is a very well written and performed show about the audition from hell. Randy Reyes is particularly good as the innocent from Minnesota in the den of vipers that is LA. It has all of the laughs that you've come to expect from a Scrimshaw show. Recommended.

Very funny by Dave Larson
Rating: 5 kitties
This is a very funny show about the speech team sectionals, with some great performances and hilarious speeches. I might take half a kitty off for Mike Fotis cracking up on stage, but this is well worth checking out.

The Princeton Seventh
Very enjoyable show by Dave Larson
Rating: 4 kitties
A fun show with a very good cast. This is a repeat, so I can't really give it 5 kitties, but it is going to be one of the better shows at the Fringe. There are plenty of laughs and the show is very well done.

Wisdom: Part I
Entertaining enough, but by Dave Larson
Rating: 3 kitties
Jimmy rambles too much. There's humor, and lots of laughs, but Mr. Hogg needs to focus and tighten up this show.

Mike & Matt
More Mike, less Matt by Dave Larson
Rating: 3 kitties
I loved the Mike Fotis half - he brings a nervous energy to his stories, which are about goofy nothing incidents blown all out of proportion. The Matt Fotis half - meh. It's a stereotypical story about becoming a father, and it's performed in a low key and kind of dull way. If you like Mike, go with an Ultra Pass or Rush Pass.

Flawed, but good music by Dave Larson
Rating: 3 kitties
If you're a musical fan, this show would be good to see shows 3, 4 or 5. There are two out of 3 very good singers, although Mr. Briggle was singing from the book on the first night, which sucked a lot of the energy out of his performance. Once he learns the songs, and the show gets another run through this will be worth seeing for musical fans. Nora Long has a limited role, but she's delightful as always. Joseph Papke was servicable, but he has a weak voice with some pitch problems. The musicians were very good.

The Tiki War
Painful by Dave Larson
Rating: 1 kitty
I was checking my watch at 15 minutes into the show. I looked to see if I could sneak out of the theater, but I would have had to crawl over some other patrons. By the 30 minute mark I was laughing at how horrible the writing, directing and acting were. Only go to this if you want to see how bad a Fringe show can be. Over plotted, ploddingly paced - even the props were bad. Avoid like the plague. I gave it one kitty and not zero because they actually put some work into it, however fruitless it was.
