Word. The Urban Musical
Meh. by Jessica Fillbrandt
Rating: 2 kitties
The show was supposed to be a biography, but I'm not sure who it was biography-ing (yes, I know that is not a word). It was a biography meets musical meet hip-hop revelation, but it didn't play well enough to be thrilling or exciting. The story was awkward and clunky, and the racism was maybe a little TOO blunt and "in-your-face" (I realize this is what they were going for, but again, it didn't play well). That being said, the interplay of relationships as pertains to social/racial status was interesting, as was the premise of the story. The "dueling lovers" were adorable. And I really liked the acting commitment of the 3 narrators. All in all, though, just an ok show.
