My Fringe

Show reviews by Ronny Cary

You Only Live Forever Once
Never Disappointed by Ronny Cary
Rating: 5 kitties
I've liked Four Humors since the 2008 Fringe. I've never been disappointed with their work and this show is no exception. It was great. Go see it.

Four Clowns
Totally Unexpected by Ronny Cary
Rating: 5 kitties
I went to this show on a whim and when I came out of the theatre, I was saying to myself, "WTF was that?"... in a good way! This show is so bazaar and politically incorrect I didn't know when it was okay to laugh, but I guess that's the point. Some audience interaction made it super uncomfortable... once again in a good way. These clowns are very talented and even more messed up. Go see it!

Uptown: The Musical
Out of Left Field by Ronny Cary
Rating: 5 kitties
This show took me completely by surprise. First of all, the house was packed so word of mouth has been good to Box Wine Theatre. Second, this show was incredible. I was blown away by the talent in performances of the cast and the band and how good the script and lyrics were. Wow! This company is now on my radar.

Angelina Jolie is a Zionist Whore! or, Plan 9 from Baghdad
Very Good by Ronny Cary
Rating: 4 kitties
This shaw was really good, but not my favorite. Not really a message that I could decipher, but that's okay. Performances were great and script was very fun. I recommend it.

Ex-Gays
So-So by Ronny Cary
Rating: 3 kitties
I went into this show with high hopes from Savage Umbrella's past productions, but felt the show was only so-so. It wasn't bad, mind you. I just have very high expectations of this company because previous work of theirs has blown me away.

Your Responsibility for Sex Failure
Sorry... by Ronny Cary
Rating: 3 kitties
After reading the reviews of this show I was keen to see it, but one must realize you can't always count on reviews. So if you loved it, take this review with a grain of salt. But this is how I honestly feel. I felt the show was fine, but not exceptional. The writing was clever in my opinion, but the execution wasn't what I would call great, bringing the script down a notch. I wish that there were a different cast altogether. I remember thinking how quickly I thought the show flew by, then realized the show was only about 38 minutes after I got out of the theatre. Too short for a Fringe show in my eyes.

Robot Lincoln: The Revengeance (The Musical)
Clever Idea. Average Outcome. by Ronny Cary
Rating: 3 kitties
Actors were hard to hear. Plot was hard to follow. Rounding up form 2 and a half kitties to three for the effort and nice visual aspect of the show.

The Vampire Lesbians of Sodom by Charles Busch
A Bit of a Disappointment by Ronny Cary
Rating: 2 kitties
I didn't care for the script or the performances. Vampire Lesbians of Sodom doesn't have that something that Psycho Beach Party or The Lady in Question provoked in me... or maybe it was just the performances. While occasional flashes of energy and commitment from some actors showed through, I didn't think the casting was very good.
