My Fringe

Show reviews by David McKay

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Dr. Jekyll
A triumph! by David McKay
Rating: 5 kitties
This show is very 'fringey' in that it mixed a hilarious self aware period piece with existential musings and laugh out loud physical comedy. Fringe is the place to see seemingly distinctive genres clash in new and provocative ways under the well honed skills of a seasoned writer and inspired performers.

Highlander: The Musical!
See this instead of any sequel! by David McKay
Rating: 5 kitties
Showcasing a range of talents from the art of parody, catchy song writing, compelling singing, surprisingly scary sword fighting, and even some inspired dance moves, this is a mosaic of the best of the talents you come to expect from fringe. You don't have to see the original "Highlander" movie to get plenty of laughs but it may be a fun double feature and it is on netflix streaming. Next year, can I hope to see another Queen inspired 80's geekfest of "Flash Gordon"?

Those Were the Days: A Tribute to Television Themes
A stroll down memory lane. by David McKay
Rating: 5 kitties
A nostalgic trip to yesteryear, when both TV shows and their advertisers had actual lyrics instead of just a catch phrase. This group was able to skillfully tie together seemingly divergent song themes in clever and unexpected ways while at the same time never missing a note or step. I recommend this show for it's joyous spirit, it's talented performers, and it's ability to make you remember more jingles than you thought was possible.

Brain Fighters
Come for the comedy, stay for the hugs! by David McKay
Rating: 5 kitties
We all often need a reminder to unleash our imaginations and let our spirits soar. This inspired show invites you fly to the mountaintops, romp around with dinosaurs, and indulge your inner child with a tale of magic and adventure. These performers are adept at the art of contorting, twisting, and morphing into an unbelievable range of hilarious shapes that will make you perspire in empathy. Don't be afraid of large lines as that space is huge and the show is worth the wait!
