"very cerebral comedy" - NY Times

A cerebral blend of stand-up comedy with science. Tim Lee is a comedian with a Ph.D. who's become an internet sensation with more than 4 million views of his YouTube videos.

"You know how Larry the Cable Guy's act pretty much consists of him yelling "Git 'er done!" every five minutes or so? Scientist-turned-comic Tim Lee's material is the diametric opposite. Lee, who got his PhD before realizing where his true talents lay, blends science talk (complete with PowerPoint presentations) with comedy. The hilarious result is like what would happen if you crossed your high-school chem teacher with George Carlin"

"Tim was absolutely fantastic!!! His comedy is smart, brainy and has what 95% of today's comics (who would rather sink to the lowest depths of sterile and raunchy sexual jokes without an ounce of intelligence to them) lack: WIT! Yes, WIT!! Smart, sassy, irreverent, and clever without being pretentious. "
- Raoul N. Rizik (audience member, Goldstar review)

"Tim was very amusing and entertained us very well. 4 of us went...ages 20's to 50's...male and female, and we all thought it was a great evening."

This is a sort of show one comes to see - something totally different - "smart" scientist decides to use .ppt slides (mostly) to demonstrate his comedy. OK and somewhat funny, but I felt his true audience might be in corporate offices of tech-related companies who under it all. (We did, having Ph.D. science degrees - not necessarily required) - but he did have a few glitches, scientifically that bugged us. Hopefully he straighten then out. First scalar came earlier than he showed it; had the drugs for kids mixed up in third slide...minor points, but a unique type of show.Glad we saw it, just keep working on it.

I--and the entire audience--laughed almost non-stop. Smart and hilarious. Who ever knew graphs could be so funny.

I was laughing so hard I almost had an asthma attack.

It's OK To Sit In The Front Row

Tim is the smart guy comic.

His delivery is smooth, mixing academic power point beats, with funny punchlines.

It's ok to sit in the first row, he doesn't have to resort to picking on anyone for laughs.

Fun time.

Solid stand up

Lee is engaging and has an understated, wink-wink delivery. The material was well-framed using power pointed scientific jargon, but the jokes were usually predictable.

I Was Going to Think of a Science Pun...

...but I didn't. Tim Lee gives a stand up routine that has some really funny bits, but his stage presence is not yet confident, and that hurts the overall delivery. It seems like he himself is unsure of the material, and that in turn saps the punch of some of the funniest moments. He's got a promising start, but Mr. Lee needs a bit more polish before I could recommend him without reservation.

Great delivery but tired material

I like the science comedy concept. I like graphs and charts. Tim Lee had pretty good stage presence. It's just that most of the actual jokes were just not funny, relying heavily on retreads and stereotypes.

i think the science, slide-shown comedy was funnier than the straight standup, but this was nonetheless one of the better hours i've invested in these waning, dog days of the fringe. it's too late to see it; i hope you did.

Very witty, lots of laughs. We loved the graphs and charts and Tim's timing with his jokes. Go see it.

Fun with science, but could use polish

I have a science background and while I enjoyed seeing scientific concepts tied to comedy, many of the jokes they led to ended up falling somewhat flat. Also, the switches between presentation and stand-up mode were forced and almost painful to watch, as it seemed like he often lost where he was going with a bit.

Non-uproarious Standup Comedy

There are some fun science analogy jokes in this show, but there are also a bunch of fairly standard dating jokes. He may be targeting two audiences, neither very precisely. Since "Scientist" in the title will chase away the non-geeks, more esoteric science and tech jokes would be the best bet.

Promising delivery, so-so material

I would have loved to have had more of Lee's science-related jokes (the use of the power point graphs was very funny), and fewer tired, overused schticks about Pamela Anderson's breast implants or Joan Rivers' cosmetic surgery. Maybe it was just an off night for Lee, but his delivery seemed a little tired and uninspired, though he clearly has a very appealing and charismatic stage presence and a unique comedic point of view, I would love to see him back with an hour of stand-up that is more tightly written and better structured.

Highly recommended!

Great show, funny guy, and definitely easy on the eyes. Tim was nice-looking, too.

I smiled and laughed my way through this funny "seminar." Weighted towards "guy-humor", but still great.

An hour well spent

An hour of very clever jokes, with wonderful visual aids. The biggest laughs were generally the ones where Tim didn't have to read what was on the slide.

Best use of power point. It's a unique form of comedy using physics as a formate.

Dr. of Comedy

This was the best Fringe show I've seen yet. The use of power point was great. From someone who comes from the business world it added to the humor. I'm not a prude and like vulgar crude comedy but I think "smart" comedy is a lot more difficult to do. Tom deserves to be called the Dr. of Comedy!

Enjoyed humor which kept it clean while keeping us laughing. A teen and his parents all found lots to laugh at and I highly recommend this show. Tonite's was almost sold out so get there early or buy your tickets ahead of time!

Tim's presentation is definitely a presentation worth attending. He adds a twist/comedy to a variety of scientific knowledge intertwined with personal experiences. I'd recommend the show...one never knows what might be learned when applying science to things completely unrelated to science. Nice job, Tim!!!

Smart funny!

The artist really is Ph.D and effectively uses his background to put the funny in science. The full house laughed a lot at jokes ranging from chemical bonds to Heisenberg. I would have gone 5 kitties but his pace of delivery was just little jerky for my taste. It was definitely worth the rime and the punch. Eccellent venue, too.
