you smell like whiskey and bad choices is a whimsical romp about three women who wake up after a night of drinking only to find one big problem, leading them on a whirlwind adventure to answer the question "What the hell happened last night?!?" This is a silly, fast-paced, physical show, incorporating cardboard puppets and quick changes. It is a mashup of the classic mystery genre, contemporary bromance comedies, and cartoons. you smell like whiskey and bad choices premiered at the first annual PortFringe Festival in Maine this June.
Raw Sugar was founded in 2011 with the desire to make adventurous and imaginative theater projects driven by women. In 2009 Raw Sugar's cofounders, Jenny Moeller, Rebekah Rentzel, and Shawny Sena, met while interning at the regional theater in Portland, Maine. When native Minneapolitian Jenny Moeller returned home, she lured the other two with the siren song of collaborative theater making and friendship. Their first show, Tales of the Perilously Grounded, premiered at the 2011 Minnesota Fringe.

This is a handsomely crafted piece of fringe theatre. Wonderful writing, just silly enough without being absurd for the sake of absurdity. Very tight acting that didn't feel at all stale. Kitchy but well made and used props.
I can't say enough positive about these ladies.
Scale:
0-Terrible
1-Tell your friends not to go
2-A bad fringe show, below par for the festival. Don't Bother
3-Worth seeing, don't go out of your way.
4-Good to Great. Make time for this show.
5-Absolutely outstanding. A great show, festival or otherwise.
Silly, but fun

A cute and interesting story line, helped by the enthusiasm of the actors made this show a good way to spend 35 minutes in a busy fringe scheduled day. While I probably wouldn't recommend this one, I also wouldn't discourage. I'm not disappointed I went.

I guess this was entertaining and luckily they had a bar at this location which helped get through the show. It was somewhat funny and somewhat silly so I guess they gave it the right name.
A wild, fun ride.

Only 35 minutes long but they pack at least 50 minutes worth of material into it, and doing it at normal speed wouldn't be nearly as much fun. I love seeing a cast just go for it and that's exactly what these ladies do. Too much awesomeness to go into detail, but this is a great, inventive and very silly show. I loved it.
Some chuckles

This show was a longish-seeming 35 minutes, but there were a few laughs from sight gags and one-liners. Many others in the audience seemed to enjoy it a lot more than I did. Just not my thing, I guess.

This show could have been terrible, and at the start I had a fleeting thought that I was attending one of Fringe's terrible amateur "comedies" that I always seem to get stuck at. Thankfully Raw Sugar had a perfect blend of enthusiasm and weirdness that made it worth it at the end. Clever props, a bizarre but coherent mystery plot, and a great cast negated any reservations I had about the rough start.

This was an awesome joy explosion. These ladies are having such a blast, and they bring us all along for the ride. It is pure, unapologetic, rambunctious fun. Hooray for Raw Sugar!

It looks like I get to be a bit of a buzz-kill on this one.
The show was basically an off-the-shelf Scooby Doo minus the dog and with a somewhat more mature set of situations. Not a lot of originality in the framework. That's the minus.
The plus is the effervescence of the cast and the effectiveness of staging on the postage-stamp sized stage at HUGE.
Was it worth an hour of my life - Yes
Would I see another production by this company - Yes
Does this hold up well against some of the other Fringe comedy productions - Not really
Yeahhhhhh!

What a goofy, silly, fun show! Ridiculous plot, frenetic energy, cheerfully earnest delivery. Wonderful timing, clearly thoroughly rehearsed, and just as important as all of that, they knew when to stop (the show was only about 35 minutes long). Well done.
Very Funny

Yes, it was just a remake of "The Hangover", but it was still far more original than "The Hangover 2". It was really funny, I definitely recommend it.

While this show had all the promise of something that could be a fringe smash they missed the mark. The pacing was wrong and while the dance breaks were cute they were too long. Overall I was disappointed because the title was so good. Props were cool and loved the frantic recap.

I don't want to give any little delicious morsel of silliness away but this is a delightful little romp not to be missed. Great cast, fantastic creativity, (the cardboard props are To DIE for!) and a story that goes so far out their you wonder how they are going to wrap it up in half an hour! But don't take my word for it! Go see this show to experience it for yourself!

I haven't seen anything so fabulously silly in a long time. The show was wonderfully amusing and had me in some state of giggling, chortling, chuckling, or all-out belly-laughing throughout.
Crazy and Absurd
by Phillip Schramm
Rating 4 stars
This show is crazy and absurd in the best way possible. The show has so many odd twists and turns that even one of the performers was laughing at its own absurdity (which only helped fuel the show's progression). The pacing is a little wonky, it starts off very fast and feels like it could end about 10 minutes into the show, but that can be easily overlooked as script keeps going to more absurd places. This show is worth it just to see how much fun the performers are having.

I'm already anticipating the sequel.
These ladies go deep - so deep - validating the relevance of performance art, street clowns and slam poets in 45 minutes of music filled reverie.
There are also tutus.
And sharks.
A great night out.
