Pure Geek Joy

I did not anticipate going to this, originally. I chose to attend because I had a time-slot between two shows. I came away with a mile-wide grin and wishing I'd seen this earlier in the weekend.

This brilliantly funny and fun story of super-villains, super-rivalry, and super-heroism was low-, low-, low-budget. But that was a huge part of its charm. With all the sets and props made from what looked like cardboard, colored paper, markers, and glue, the performers still wove a wonderful narrative that tickled the comic-book lover in me while engaging the theater-lover.

Science, comics, rival besties: Shazam!

Science! Academia! Shiny costumes! Outsized villains with nebbish sidekicks! Action!
This production isn't fancy, polished, lavishly furnished. It's a low-budget comic book presented in cardboard props by young performers who clearly enjoy what they are doing. Notably, this show passes the Bechdel Test without ever making a point of trying to do so. Nerdy laughs made it a very pleasant hour.

Fun action comic romp

Like a female version of Dr Horrible without the singing. Good show, but not amazing. Met my expectations going in.

Nerdy Fun

I'd love to see more young women in the audience for this show. I imagine that both the actors and the content of the show are inspiring for women who are interested in science and superheroes. Female Fringe content doesn't have to all be Jane Austen, musicals, or dance.
Defiance Alliance is silly with brains behind it. The set is clever and probably should be a model for future Fringe production classes. And, the actors do a great job and obviously have fun.
Very enjoyable!

Campiest show I have see this year

I mean that in a good way. This story, the acting and technical elements were fun and light and did not try to hit you over the head or send a message. It was very enjoyable and I highly recommend. Looking forward to more from this group in the future.

Silly fun

Super heroes and super villains that are women and actually act like women, only goofy. It's a fun little show that's worth checking out.

I love comic books and funny dialogue about serious subjects. This show covered all my bases, while being very VERY funny. The campy set added to the comic book feel, and the silly story belies a deeper message. Go see it!!!

Whimsical Tale

Went in knowing nothing and left with a big goofy grin. The show was excellent and the chemistry between actors off stage was clearly evident in the show and went a long way to making the performances shine. The set was absolutely charming!

Awesome Show of Awesome!

This show was highly recommended to me since I love female-powered shows and companies and since I'm a huge comic book geek. It did not disappoint, and in fact, exceeded my expectations. It was everything you want a superhero thing to be--it included origin but didn't harp on it, was exciting, had plenty of junk science to explain it all, and was campy and fun yet full of heart and unexpected wisdom. I can not recommend this show highly enough, and I'll probably see anything Raw Sugar does from here on out based on it.

Pleasant Surprise

Very glad I stumbled onto this show. All three women in the show are hilarious and play off each other beautifully. The ridiculous sound effects and set design only added to the charm. Great stuff. You should check it out.

Beautiful

Raw Sugar’s Defiance Alliance was a witty, comedic rolic about superheroes, science, and 75 different macaroni recipes. The three person cast worked together like well oiled machinery, seamlessly transitioning their cardboard set into different settings. Jenny Moeller, who played Delilah, was hysterically funny, both with her dialogue and her facial expressions. The actors played off of each other and the audience beautifully. Although there were some line slip ups in the beginning, it was still a tight performance. Because of swearing I would say that this show is appropriate for ages 14 and up.

Cute concept....

by Ariel Lopez on August 3, 2014

Sorta a Dr. Horrible meets the Odd Couple, "Defiance Alliance" fully embraces the campiness of comic book heroines and super villains. At times this is charming and fun, and at other times, it falls a little flat (literally, as most of the sets and props are cardboard, which adds to the campy feel, but also made for some tech snafus).

It's a fun show, and a solid concept and story, but it really wasn't executed terribly well.

What fun! I loved the writing, the all-out performances, the creative cardboard set, and the sheer enthusiasm and joy with which it was performed. Whenever I wasn't laughing, I was smiling. An excellent way to spend an hour - delightful!

Women superheros are much more than eye-candy and should be. A delightful romp and take on the comic book imagination. These are people, dammit, in costume folks. They fight for us and fight for what is right! Go Girls!

Grinned like a fool the entire time

This show is SO GREAT. It's silly and fun and innovative. It's about friendship and anti-heroes and enemies within. It's about women and science and broken-friendship-hearts. These ladies are clearly having fun up there, and you can't help but have fun along with them. The show is silly but not fluffy - totally delightful.
